“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.”
Recognizing this, The Narrows – an Artist Residency space, accessible by boat from Nelson, BC, has opened its doors last week. “We recognize that in these surreal and troubling times, is when artists need to work, to have their voices heard, so we have opened The Narrows for Artist Residencies (with COVID rules in place), so artists looking to focus on their practice have an isolated, inspiring place to dive deep into their creative process,” says Erica Konrad, artist and founder of The Narrows. The centre will focus on providing a safe space for artists to further their process, and they look forward to welcoming that creative energy.
And while, The Narrows has opened its doors again for residencies for locals, and provincial artists, they have chosen to cancel workshops for the summer/fall season, to protect their community.
