The Slocan Rambler’s blend of lightning fast and devilishly intricate instrumentals with the sawdust-thick vocals of singer Frank Evans is roots music without pretension, made to get you moving. Rooted in the bluegrass tradition, fearlessly creative, and possessing a bold, dynamic sound, the band has a reputation for energetic live shows, impeccable musicianship and an uncanny ability to convert anyone within earshot into a lifelong fan.

“For a bunch of boys from Toronto, the Slocan Ramblers are turning out a piping hot brand of bluegrass that you just may think was cut fresh from a back porch in the Blue Ridge.” – Elmore Magazine

Performing Arts Trail presents
Lizzy Hoyt: New Lady on the Prairie

Tuesday, March 19 at 7:30 pm

The BaileyTheatre

Entwining traditional and contemporary elements, Lizzy Hoyt delivers a diverse evening of music with soaring melodies rooted in Celtic and folk traditions.

Based on repertoire from her acclaimed album, “New Lady on the Prairie”, this show is a lyrical nod to the past — a collection of songs about Canadian history, immigration, women, war, love and family. Lizzy finely crafted songs for this album inspired by her maternal grandmother’s stories about their family tree. Due to her strong personal connection with the stories, Lizzy was able to create timeless songs that are touching, poignant and lyrically rich.

For her work on this project, Lizzy was nominated for Songwriter of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards), Solo Artist of the Year (Canadian Folk Music Awards), and Story Song of the Year (Independent Music Awards).
