FirstVoices is the internationally recognized online Indigenous language archiving and teaching resource that allows communities to document their languages for future generations.
FirstVoices grants will fund projects for B.C. First Nations languages that focus on multi-dialect collaborative archives and updates to existing archives. The purpose of these grants is to increase the number of B.C. First Nations languages represented in FirstVoices archives and support existing users to include more words, phrases, songs and stories.
Your FirstVoices project will take a multi-media approach to language documentation using innovative technology to make the most of this unique web-based platform.

Eligible applications will be subject to a peer review process to determine the successful applicants. Projects that are funded in the 2019-2020 grant cycle MUST be completed and reported on by July 1, 2020.
FPCF recognizes that reliable, recurring funding has been a barrier to ongoing work on FirstVoices archives. For the first time, 2-year funding agreements of up to $100,000 are being offered.
This funding will support the documentation and sharing of your language and to encourage collaboration between communities of the same language.
Note: Regional training sessions will be provided for all teams who require training in using the FirstVoices platform and managing your FirstVoices archive. Training will also include how to record, edit and upload audio files.
If you know anyone who may benefit from funding in these program areas please pass this information along and share with your networks.
