Advocate for Arts and Culture with ArtsVote BC!

Municipal elections take place in communities across the province on October 20, and we want you to be informed. We also want to empower you to advocate for arts, culture and heritage in your community. With that in mind, we’re excited to relaunch our ArtsVote BC campaign.

This year, we’re encouraging arts advocates across the province to make the case for increased investment in municipal cultural grant programs and an increase to municipal capital spending on cultural infrastructure. In order to help you make this ask, we’ve prepared a comprehensive package of resources so you can be informed and take action.

First, read up on why the arts matter, peruse our candidates’ surveys to get an idea of your candidates’ positions on the arts and culture issues that are important to you, and take a look at our toolkits, which bring both voters and candidates up to speed on the value of arts, culture and heritage.

Then, once you’re informed, flex those advocacy muscles and take action. Send a letter to your candidates letting them know why arts, culture and heritage are critical to your community. Find an all candidates meeting in your area (or, if you’re in Vancouver, attend our All Candidates Meeting for Arts and Culture, which we’re co-presenting with the Museum of Vancouver on October 15 at 5:00 p.m.!). And don’t forget to register to vote!

You can find all this and more at the ArtsVote BC website. So take a look around the site, and get ready to advocate for arts, culture and heritage before hitting the polls on October 20.

This October, #votewithyourheART

One of the most effective ways to advocate on behalf of arts, culture and heritage is to use social media to make your voice heard. To emphasize the importance of arts and culture in the lead-up to the 2018 municipal election, we’re launching our #votewithyourheART social media campaign. By circulating great quotes from great minds, we hope to draw attention to the critical role creativity plays in a robust and healthy society.

Follow the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest advocacy updates, and use the hashtags #votewithyourheART and #ArtsVoteBC to join the conversation!
