Canadian art leads the way in global conversations
What do art and culture have to do with an international meeting between leaders?
The arts have an important role to play in Canada’s presence on the international stage. They express the values of our country, foster conversations around topics that are important to Canadians, and offer shared experiences that develop connections between Canadians and citizens of other countries.
For the 2018 G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Québec, over 80 artworks from the Art Bank’s collection were on display throughout the Manoir Richelieu hotel. The works were chosen to reflect three of the G7 meeting’s five themes: gender equality and women’s empowerment, climate change, and building a more peaceful and secure world.
In much the same way, a selection of 21 artworks from the Art Bank collection exploring the themes related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are now on display at the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario’s Suite.
