Summer salutations from the BC Alliance,

I hope summer is in full swing for your organization and that you are enjoying the many cultural offerings in your community.

I’m contacting you, along with the other members of the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture, to tell you about Arts Day on the Hill, which will take place on Tuesday, October 2 in Ottawa. This event is a great opportunity for artists, arts managers and board members of arts organizations across the country to meet with Members of Parliament. It’s our opportunity to bring arts advocates from across the country together to speak to federal stakeholders and talk with them about the value that the arts bring to Canadian communities. Arts Day on the Hill is also one of our most successful ways to engage parliamentarians and get their support on initiatives that are put forward by the Canadian Arts Coalition.

As a member of the steering committee of the Canadian Arts Coalition, I have been asked to recommend MPs from BC who would be interested in participating in the scheduled meetings that take place between cultural workers and politicians in Ottawa on October 2.

If your MP is an arts champion or would benefit from hearing more about the positive impact the arts have in their community, please be in touch so our national team can invite them to participate in these meetings.

We will be meeting with MPs from all political parties to ask them to support the Coalition’s priorities for Canadian artists. Collectively, we will lobby for a $30M increase in funding to the Canadian Arts Presenters Fund at Canadian Heritage and fair taxation laws for Canadian artists who are increasingly being audited by the CRA.

If you are a member of the Canadian Arts Coalition, I invite you to make the trip to Ottawa with me to present the Coalition’s messages to MPs, senators and senior officials. We’re looking for people who can speak convincingly about the value that the arts bring to Canadian communities and the role that federal investment plays – this is an opportunity to let your passion show! It’s also very important to us to demonstrate strong national support by having representatives from all regions of our country participate, as well as a diversity of language, culture and artistic practice.

If you’re not a member of the Coalition and would like to know more about it, click here.

To be in touch, please send an email to brenda@allianceforarts.com and let’s start a conversation about how we can get your MP involved in the arts.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly,

Brenda Leadlay
