The Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) brings together representatives of arts disciplines and cultural industries in the cultural sector to address HR issues such as the training and career development needs of employers and cultural workers including artists, technical staff, managers and all others engaged professionally in the sector.
CHRC, a national, not-for-profit arts service organization, is offering a unique opportunity for a communications professional. A passionate, talented and bilingual content creator is needed to fill a 9-month contract position, from July 3, 2018 to March 31, 2019, as Communications Officer for the Respectful Workplaces in the Arts (RWA) project.
The RWA project is a ground-breaking effort to ensure that artists and arts organizations across Canada are provided with the tools, resources and training to prevent harassment of any kind and make respectful workplaces the norm in the cultural sector.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Officer will be given the opportunity to help effectively establish the face and narrative of this exciting project and its related activities.
The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans for the RWA project in general and for the following specific initiatives:
- Consultations for equity-seeking communities in 6 cities across the country.
- Rollout of webinars on harassment which explain compliance with provincial and territorial legislation.
- Rollout of training videos for artists and employers/Boards of Directors.
- Release of HR Management Toolkit chapter on Anti-Harassment.
- Other initiatives as required: e.g. national code of conduct.
The Communications Officer works with a marketing consultant in the development of a RWA campaign aimed at arts audiences and the general public; and with CHRC’s webmaster in the maintenance of the dedicated RWA web site.
- A proven track record of effective communication planning and the development and use of key messaging.
Education and Knowledge
- A degree in Communications or Public Relations from a recognized educational institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
- An ability to navigate and effectively use a wide variety of common and widely-used word processing, spreadsheet and email management software.
- Knowledge of social media tools (Facebook, Twitter etc.).
The following will be considered assets:
- Active interest in Canada’s live performing, visual and literary arts.
- Knowledge of and an active interest in graphic design, photography, videography animation and visual storytelling.
- An intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in: Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe After Effects CC, Adobe Acrobat and Quark XPress.
- Ability to write well in English
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public, in English and in French
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
