Notice of RCAC Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC) will be held on 25 January 2018 at 6pm at the Prestige Hotel in Rossland.  RCAC will be reviewing the past year and electing the Board of Directors. The AGM is open to members and all other interested parties.

We’re well on our way to building a show for January 21 that will be at least as good as our December extravaganza.  Watch for the list of performers that will appear soon in the media and on our notice boards.
Don’t forget:  Joe Hill is in the Rossland Legion, 2081 Washington Street.  It’s still the traditional Joe Hill format – tea, coffee, goodies, family-friendly (no bar).

Doors open at 6:30 PM, show starts at 7:00.  Cost is a mere $3.

I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night, alive as you or me.
Said I “But Joe you’re ten years dead.”  “I never died” said he…
“I never died said he.”

(from “The Ballad of Joe Hill”)

We’re now well into our tenth season of Joe Hill Coffee House, and planning for ten more.

Many of our “old faithful” performers and volunteers have matured and moved on, so we would like to bring in as many new faces as we can – and you can help us.  Just chat about Joe Hill Coffee House with the people you know, let them know that we would love to involve them, and assure those who are shy that Joe Hill Coffee House is intended as a safe place to see how it feels to perform in public – best audience anywhere, no auditions, performances can be as short as a song or two.  (Anyone who can sing in the shower can put their clothes on and sing at Joe Hill.)

You can help us by networking informally, or if you would like to be a more active Friend of Joe Hill, you can contact Les Carter at retrac01@telus.net, 250-362-5677.  We need volunteers who can deal with things like social media postings, contact with radio stations, and any other ways you can think of to promote Joe Hill.  Sign up; have fun!

On Friday February 9th, get ready to laugh with the talented team of improv comedians from Vancouver TheatreSports League. Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, two teams of performers are pitted against each other in competitive improv matches. Using audience suggestions to fuel scenes, teams must create totally improvised situations on the spot. Join us at 7:30 at the Miners Hall!

Tickets are on sale at “Out of the Cellar” or online here: http://rosslandartscouncil.com/upcoming-events/

Friday, February 9th 2018 is a P.D. Day, and why not spend some time laughing and sharpening your improv skills with professional improv comedians?

The Vancouver TheatreSports League team will be putting on a Youth Improv Workshop at the Miners Hall at 1pm on Feb 9th. The cost is only $10 to attend and you get into the 7:30 pm show for free!

This is a great activity for young people who want to exercise their minds during ski season. Tickets available at “Out of the Cellar” and online at http://rosslandartscouncil.com/upcoming-events/

More of a music lover? On Friday March 2nd, The Rémi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble pays tribute to Oscar Peterson, one of the most important pianists in the entire history of jazz. As accompanist to the greatest jazz vocalists of all time, including Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, recognition of his talent quickly spread far beyond his hometown of Montreal.

Remi Bolduc is known for intense yet controlled musicianship, breathtaking precision and a magnetic stage presence, and is renowned as one of Canada’s greatest jazz saxophonists. Joined by his skilled band, he captivates audiences with dazzling virtuosity and stunning maturity – a must-see performance. See you there at 8pm at the Miners Hall!

Tickets are on sale at “Out of the Cellar” or online here: http://rosslandartscouncil.com/upcoming-events/
