Petrouchka by Motus O Dance Theatre
Sunday, November 12 at 2 pm
In this magical world there lives a Wizard and his three marionettes the handsome but cruel Strongman, the beautiful Ballerina and the unlikely hero Petrouchka. Petrouchka is in love with the Ballerina but his clumsy attempts to impress her take him on an outrageous adventure that unfolds with no end of calamity.
Join Petrouchka as he outwits the Strongman, tames a bear, dances with a feather, juggles bowling balls, goes fishing and avoids the anger of the Wizard and then in a spectacular finale saves the Ballerina’s life. Petrouchka may be small and awkward but his enthusiasm for life enchants us all.
Performed to the original score by Igor Stravinsky, Petrouchka is the story of a little clown with a big heart.
Kootenay DanceWorks will be opening for this event!

Set on a remote Pacific island, covered in rain forest and dominated by an active volcano, this heartfelt story, enacted by the Yakel tribe, tells of a sister’s loyalty, a forbidden love affair and the pact between the old ways and the new. With their documentary backgrounds, co-directors Bentley Dean and Martin Butler deliver a spectacularly exotic film, replete with visions of grass skirts and a spitting volcano, based on a true story from the Tanna community in the 1980s.
