We are creating and installing the project Summoning (No Words) at Oxygen Art Centre this month and would like to extend an invitation to join us in preparing the fabric for the installation.
Open studios are planned for community members to participate in creating the temple walls, which will be made using the Japanese technique of shibori dyeing with indigo. All are welcome and no prior experience is necessary. Shibori dyeing is a simple, beautiful and ancient dyeing technique using indigo dye, which is all natural and non-toxic. All materials will be supplied. Open studios will take place Aug 11-13th. We are open to people joining us on other days as well. Please just ask.
And please feel welcome to pass this invitation on.
Summoning (No Words) is a sound temple, built of the female voice and in response to violence against women. Local singers Bessie Wapp and Allison Girvan are among the seven Canadian female vocalists contributing. More information regarding the project can be found at www.summoning.ca
The exhibition opening reception will take place August 25th at 7pm. An artist talk will take place August 26th at 4pm. The exhibition will run from Aug 26 – Sept 30th, Wednesday to Saturday, 1 to 5pm.
