BCTC 2017 Awards Winners Announced
Announcing the BC Touring Council 2017 Award Winners
The BC Touring Council Annual Awards were presented at Pacific Contact on April 1, 2017 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby, BC.
The Touring Award of Excellence recognizes an outstanding body of work, long-standing service and contribution. The recipient of this award exemplifies excellence in the performing arts touring sector. The Touring Award of Excellence was presented to Bill Millerd, Artistic Managing Director, The Arts Club Theatre. Bill, who has overseen the Arts Club Theatre Company for over 40 years, will step down as artistic managing director at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The Touring Artist/Artistic Company of the Year was awarded to an artist or artistic company who toured BC within the past year, who demonstrates artistic excellence in their discipline and the highest degree of professionalism. This year’s Artistic Company of the Year was awarded to Axis Theatre Company. Daune Campbell, General Manager of Axis Theatre was on hand to accept the award.
Presenter Of The Year demonstrates commitment to artistic and managerial excellence, demonstrates community involvement, the highest degree of professionalism in presenting and contributes to the awareness and development of the arts. The 2017 Presenter of the Year was awarded to Michael & Hazel Jeffrey of the Kitimat Concert Association in Kitimat, BC.
The Agent or Manager of the Year demonstrates professionalism and respect for artists and presenters, and demonstrates ethical and best practices in business. This year’s Agent or Manager of the Year was awarded to Tom Landa of Cubbyhole Artists.
The Raising Curtains Award recognizes those who work behind the curtain or behind the scenes. The recipient of the Raising Curtains Award was Jerry Yoshitomi of Meaning Matters.
Best Booth in the Contact Room
This year’s Best Booth in the Contact Room, chosen by members of BCTC’s Youth Advisory Council, went to Travis Bernhardt. Travis wins a half page advertisement in the 2018 Pacific Contact printed program.
