The City of Nelson and its Cultural Development Committee are pleased to announce the continuation of the Art Rental Program, which was initiated in 2016. This program displays art by local and regional artists within the City’s indoor public spaces, promoting and reflecting the creative nature of Nelson.
“The Art Rental Program proved very popular when we piloted it last year, with over 150 applications from the talented artists we have here in the Kootenays,” says City Councillor Valerie Warmington. “Artists are paid an annual lease fee for the artwork that we display, and I’m excited that through these initiatives we are able to support & promote the growth of public art in Nelson.”
The deadline for submissions has been extended to March 10, 2017. Applicants are asked to provide electronic images of their pieces, along with the medium, dimensions, value and artist bio. All artwork must be suitably framed and ready for hanging. Larger-sized paintings are recommended due to the nature of the space they will inhabit. Submissions will be adjudicated by the CDC’s Public Art Working Group.
Please read the Program Guidelines below before submitting your application. Applications can be sent to Joy Barrett, Cultural Development Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
